TechCrunch readers want this phone?
I just saw something different at TechCrunch today and it was a Meebo toolbar at the bottom of the screen. I am not a big fan of toolbars but what did strike my eye was the ad on the left side of the toolbar. I can’t blame them for monetizing their site but I had to question who placed the ad. As you can see the ad is for a Verizon LG enV Touch. I have never used this phone but I feel that most TechCrunch readers aren’t clamoring to get the enV Touch.
I have two groups of phones. Group A consist of the iPhone, MyTouch/G1/HTC Hero, Palm Pre, Blackberry and Window Mobile (don’t want to but I had to). Group B is every other phone made in the world. The enV Touch is in my second group. The thing is most if not all TechCrunch readers have phones in the first group (I have no statistical data to back up my statement but I can’t be too far off) So why would somebody place an ad on the front page of TechCrunch for a phone that cannot compete with phones from Group A? At least place an ad for the Palm Pre, My Touch or another phone that is trying to gain traction.
